ok don't judge me here lol

Ever question God Attempt to make political decisions without asking for facts and using her brain Question her sexuallity, gender or any such nonsense Conceal thoughts from me
3:29 AM
those are the rules
3:29 AM
my friend's tulpa said they looked good
Avatar
Do you have any sense of how your tulpa feels about those rules?
Avatar
"Ever question God"?
Avatar
I don't know....my Tulpa is roughly 48hrs old and so far as I can tell the only thing she's said, at least in her voice, is hello
Avatar
Are these things to do or not?
Avatar
things NOT to do
Avatar
Not just speech. Have you felt her emotions?
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:31 AM
...those are stupid
Avatar
...I see.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:32 AM
how would you feel if your parents fed that to you?
Avatar
I would feel fine
Avatar
setting rules is reasonable, but those rules are somewhat questionable
Avatar
those were my rules when I grew up
3:32 AM
and I was fine with them
3:32 AM
ffs don't make this a religious argument
Avatar
I'm afraid I will need to judge you here - questioning anything should be valid. I would ask, if you are certain that they are correct then why require a lack of questioning?
Avatar
@Blitzeen I don't know...It's been a stressful couple of days but AFAIK she hasn't really responded emotionally
Avatar
Entirely separating any specific rule from this - questioning things is good.
Avatar
@SkyeNet because I've read horror stories about tulpas basically rebelling mentally and I'm not ok with that
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:33 AM
horror stories are just that, stories.
Avatar
Indeed.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:33 AM
honestly, your approach of trying to lock everything down is way more likely to result in a negative relationship.
Avatar
yeah, tulpas don't really do that
Avatar
Treating somebody with care and respect - appreciating their differences as much as their similarities - that leads to a positive relationship.
3:34 AM
If you disagree, respectfully discuss things.
Avatar
@bduddy #Diana# I know that....I guess I don't mind if she deviates...but I can't function without straightforward instructions
Avatar
She may not.
3:34 AM
She may function well without them.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:35 AM
it certainly sounds like you would mind. If not, why have those rules in the first place?
Avatar
This is less for her sake and more for mine because without a pretty specific picture of all this I can't visualize her or anything
Avatar
Have you read the guides on tulpa.info? They can be really helpful and straightforward
Avatar
I have
3:35 AM
I'm still not really sure
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:35 AM
you can't visualize her without setting restrictions on her opinions?
Avatar
not that
3:35 AM
those are mainly for later once she becomes sentient enough to respond
3:36 AM
lemme post my whole thing
Avatar
Quite frankly, imposing beliefs on a person is not a positive relationship.
3:36 AM
That holds true regardless of what the beliefs are.
Avatar
I know that but she's living in my mind, listening to my thoughts, so there are certain limitations she's subject to that real people aren't simply because of physiology
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:37 AM
of course. Why impose additional ones yourself then?
Avatar
Precisely.
Avatar
I don’t think it would hurt if you forgot your rules for a couple of days and continued with the process. How can you know that you wouldn’t be able to visualise her without them if you haven’t tried? You can always bring them back if you really need to, I guess.
Avatar
Indeed.
Avatar
Realistically I'm not actually using the rules rn...they're just written down for later
Avatar

@9 Mil + Ika Making it a "rule" that your tulpa will not question those things isn't going to result in anything good, and trying to make those things a rule probably won't be effective either
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:39 AM
you either have them, or you don't.
Avatar
OK I DON'T
Avatar
...I will also point out - just because you tell somebody "Don't question this" - does not mean they will not question it.
Avatar
They're simply ideas to discuss with her when she becomes sentient
Avatar
Okay.
Avatar
can we please focus on actually getting to that point
Avatar
What is the point we are looking to get to? (edited)
Avatar
sentience, it would seem
Avatar
Sorry, I'm out of the picture a bit here (edited)
Avatar
yes
3:41 AM
to where she can respond
Avatar
where?
Avatar
I expect it'll take at least a week although I'll happily accept an earlier timeframe
Avatar
...there are very, very good reasons that this is being focused on - I won't address it further beyond this point, but the reason that I am personally focusing on it (at the very least) is because making a tulpa is, for all practical intents and purposes, permanent. Establishing the general principles behind positive treatment of the tulpa is extremely important as it will shape the interactions even before they are capable of responding (as well as afterwards).
3:41 AM
Ah... a week is actually fairly optimistic.
Avatar
honestly can't give you an answer on this one, it will take however long it takes. Less than a year, maybe?
Avatar
really?
Avatar
the possible range is huge
Avatar
I was under the impression it my be 2-3 weeks before they would return inputs
Avatar
and it is a super subjective thing that depends on a ton of factors
Avatar
although I was of course hoping for sooner
Avatar
Habits take longer than two weeks to form, and making a tulpa is attempting to make something significantly more complicated than a habit - even if it was only considered a behavioral change.
Avatar
it could very well take 2 to 3 weeks
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 5/14/2018 3:42 AM
That would be pretty accurate given general trends in the tulpa community lately
Avatar
A first response within several weeks isn't unreasonable - consistent and reliable responses, on the other hand, easily will take longer. (edited)
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 5/14/2018 3:43 AM
A range of a few weeks is very common nowadays where in the past a few months was more typical. Mostly due to a shift in forcing methods used
Avatar
has there been research done on the average time and variance for sentience? I'd actually be quite curious about that
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/14/2018 3:44 AM
it could be tomorrow, it could be a couple months.
Avatar
Mm. Depends on the definition of sentience, I suppose - but after doing further research, I do really question whether genuine autonomy is even possible for something like a tulpa when simpler behavior changes take multiple weeks (as a short length).
Avatar
Yeah, I wonder about the sentience I’d walk-in tulpas.
3:44 AM
Of*
Avatar
But then, if parroted speech according to a preconcieved idea of a tulpa is considered 'sentience', naturally tulpas can appear instantaneously.
3:45 AM
In any case.
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 5/14/2018 3:45 AM
I'm curious Winter, how long did it take you to become aware after the start of your creation? If you were created intentionally, that is
Avatar
I certainly would not recommend expecting that it will take a short time.
Avatar
ehhhh I've been using parrotting as a method of forcing, mostly to try and get her voice down
Avatar
@Abvieon {Alex} N/A.
Avatar
It's okay to be hopeful that it will take a short time
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 5/14/2018 3:46 AM
Expectations can influence the actual outcome to some degree
Avatar
just be prepared to spend longer as well
Avatar
Oh, certainly. Hopefulness is wonderful.
3:46 AM
Expectations of speed causes inaccuracy.
3:46 AM
(Also a generally applicable rule.)
Avatar
so I want to spend some time forcing tonight
3:47 AM
last night I was doing the narrating
3:47 AM
so since I am a gunsmith (edited)
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 5/14/2018 3:47 AM
Forcing every day is the best advice I can give
Avatar
indeed
Avatar
For forcing, the most basic idea is to give them as much and as varied of experience as you can.
